Project Details
  • In 1959 Northwood University (N.U.) became a reality when Dr. Arthur E. Turner and Dr. R. Gary Stauffer enrolled its first 100 students at Northwood Institute
    • In 2011, Northwood University wanted to add a new Turf Building/Auditorium addition to the Bennett Athletic Performance & Wellness center.
  • Designed and certified as a LEED building.
  • Apollo Engineering was hired to provide Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing construction documents for the New Turf building along with the Auditorium.
  • Apollo designed the lighting layout and lighting controls.
    • A mixture of direct and indirect lighting fixtures was designed to allow for exceptional lighting in the turf building while keeping the cost of the project lower.
    • Lighting controls throughout the turf building and Auditorium.
    • Inverter system design for emergency lighting in the turf building.
  • A hybrid boiler system was designed to provide hot water heating into the Turf Building and Auditorium.
    • This system lowered the upfront cost by using one condensing and one non condensing boiler, without compromising the system design.
    • Heating piping was run from the existing boiler room to the hot water terminal units in the new Turf Building addition.
  • The project was a 60,000 sq.ft. addition and the schools gas bill did not go up.
